Spotlight on Morningside

Whether it’s the atmosphere and buzz as you wander around the streets, or the stunning architecture and scenery around the Meadows, there are plenty of reasons why Morningside one of my favourite spots in Edinburgh. Here’s my pick of where’s best to eat, drink and shop.

ooh! Ruby Shoes is a great boutique in the heart of Bruntsfield. Locally famous for its range of luxury shoes, they also stock an array of fabulous scandi-sheek clothing featuring brands such as Ash, Project AJ117, Billi Bi and Sita Murt. [15% off for digital EGG Card holders].

Nordic Living is the perfect spot to hunt among the treasures for a special piece to take home with you. You’ll find quirky gifts, hand crafted ceramics, exquisite danish furniture, both indoor and outdoor, and the perfect Christmas décor to sparkle up your home this winter. Chocolate lovers get to Coco – the chocolatier specialising in ethically-traded, organic and delicious chocolate. With stylish packaging – an artwork in itself – and flavours including haggis spice and gin and tonic, it really is a true representation of our bonnie Scotland.

The Black Ivy is my go-to bar in Morningside for a little local luxury. The drinks cabinet is always stocked with great gins, interesting wines, a diverse beer range, and of course flooded with creative cocktails. It’s also one of the most instagram-friendly spots in town!

Known for its nooks and crannies, memorabilia and odd artefacts, some say the Canny Man’s should be on Edinburgh’s list of tourist attractions. You could inspect this cosy local day and night.

Hot to the block, McLarens on the Corner is Morningside’s newest hang-out spot. Split across three floors, the restaurant, bar and event space offers something for everyone, while bringing new and exciting concepts to the capital.

Montpeliers is generally regarded as one of the best eateries in Morninside and the staff who work there are always friendly and welcoming. You can enjoy a delicious selection of hearty brunch options from a cosy window seat, or indulge in something more spectacular in the evening whilst toe-tapping to an array of live music. Passion, family and soul lie at the heart of Salt Cafe. This super-cute all-day-brunch spot is the perfect place to catch up with friends and family, or simply to relax and watch the world go by. Salt Cafe is another proud partner new to the EGG Card which means that our readers can get a generous 10% off when they display their digital card at the till.

Honeycomb & Co is another Morningside favourite that does not disappoint. Located on the best sun-trap corner of Merchiston Place, Honeycomb is a modern eatery with a true passion for great tastes and flavours.
