On the move…with Coulters!

Louise Casserly
18th Nov. '20

Louise is selling her gorgeous family home located in the heart of the new town. With three-bedrooms, beautiful views over the city, and in walking distance from the vibrant Broughton Street, this home could make one EGG very happy. We caught up with Louise and heard all about what initially attracted her to this home, the memories she has made there, and why she has chosen to sell with Coulters.

Hi Louise, what a beautiful home! What made you fall in love with it?

This was the first flat we bought together and we wanted something that needed refurbished so we could put our own stamp on it.  We immediately fell for the flat because of all the space especially the drawing room and the lovely unusual curved walls in drawing room and bedroom.  I personally loved all the storage in the flat and having a dressing room and an en-suite were a real bonus. A secure under pavement cellar was also important having spent years tripping over bikes in our hallways.

We loved the central location of the flat and proximity to vibrant Broughton Street and a short walk up to town but on a very quiet street.

Any big life moments?

We’ve lived here four and a half years and in that time have got engaged, married and had our first child in September this year.  There’s also the life event we are all currently living through, a global pandemic, which made us so grateful to have enough space for us both to work comfortably at home with access to Regent Gardens for lunch time walks.

The interiors look amazing can you tell us a little about the work you’ve done?

We did a lot of work when we moved in, redecorating throughout and putting in new flooring.  We put a new bathroom in the en-suite and a new shower room for guests.  The dressing room was redesigned to give more space and we tidied up the hall storage cupboards.  We wanted to make the flat cosy so put in a new heating system, replacing radiators with traditional style cast iron radiators and all the windows in the flat were replaced and draft proofed.  I enjoy the app controlled heating so you can warm the flat up before you get home!

Any tips for those getting started on a renovation right now?

If you can you should definitely try to live in a property for a short time before you start refurbishment so you understand how the space feels and what is important to you (and what frustrates you).  Fix your budget and timescales and make sure your tradesmen are aware of this.  Getting recommendations for tradesmen is also important but all the good ones are often booked up so factor this in to your timeline!

Where do you get your style inspiration?

We have quite mixed tastes with my previous flat and furniture being very traditional and my husband’s was modern and more minimalist so we had to find a good way to blend these two styles.  I did spend some time on Pinterest and of course there have been a few detailed EGG posts about Farrow & Ball paint colours (the drawing room is Elephants Breath).

The designers at Bo Concept gave us some layout suggestions when we purchased furniture from there and Jason Baker Design did an amazing job designing and building our dressing room.

Why did you choose Coulters to sell your home?

We chose Coulters because of excellent recommendations on EGGs and elsewhere!!

How did you find the process?

The process has been very smooth and professional so far.  Coulters have been quick to respond to any queries and worked to our requirements which included factoring in the birth of our baby in between our initial enquiry and putting the flat on market.

Local independents you’ll miss?

We will miss all the shops, bars and restaurants on Broughton Street. Something Fishy for delicious fresh fish and Crombies for their excellent sausages and more recently their hot meals at weekend (we highly recommend this for a tasty hot meal at a great price).  Pickles for wine and cheese served by the lovely friendly staff.  We have had lots of great meals in Escargot Bleu, the steak tartare is amazing.  We also enjoy a drink at The Broughton which is a more recent addition to the street.

Where to next?

It’s time for the next chapter, we’re moving to the Borders to be closer to our family.
